Looking for a Product or Company Name

by Jim Smith on August 9, 2007 · 83 comments

Invite over about ten of your best friends and/or prospective customers for a wine tasting party at your house early in the evening and make sure you have a designated driver or two. After everyone has had a glass or two, and started to loosen up tell them you are looking for a name for your product or business and that you invited them over to help with the name discovery process.

I wonder what they do

You’d be surprised at how creative they become. The more they loosen up the better chance there is of something very good coming out of it. It also involves your potential customers and that is a really good strategy.

Get several names you like because the challenge will be to find a name that you can register but even more so to find one that is also available as a web site domain name. The moment you settle on something, do a search at Godaddy.com to see if the name is taken. If you are very lucky and it is available, buy it immediately. It will cost you approximately $10 and you’ll own it for at least a year.

If you told me a little more about your company, which country you’re in and what target market you’re going after, perhaps I may be able to give you some advice.

Hi there,
I am trying to find a catchy / memorizable name for a new company which i am trying to start up. I will be selling products such as stuffed animals/bears, coffee mugs (with quotes/statments on them), photo frames, small figures (such as toy story and mickey mouse, some stuffed and the others are solid figures). I am willing to sell worldwide!

Thanks for the help!! If you could PM me that be great!! Comment if fine though. Thanks again :)

would LOVE help thinking of a unique, catchy, short, “stop you in your tracks” name for a t shirt/clothing print company (I know that several people have asked as well) ;(
but we are a family of 5 (three 3 little girls) and they’re names all start with a K, BUT who knows if there will ever be one more added, so want to keep that option open with the name of the company. We live in the US. Thank you so much for helping!
